Celebrating NDP 2008

On the eve of Singapore's National Day, brought my Sweetie to fetch her Jie Jie. As usual, she will give her Jie Jie a kiss and hug. After that, we proceeded to Ikea Tampines.

See what great fun they fun and yes, my Sweetie can walk really well by now.

Subsequently, we had dinner at the Fish & Co. It's one of my Cutie's favourite restaurants, gee... cos' of the fish coaster and "fishy" ambience. She was so happy that she was singing the ABC song non-stop.

2-year old Cutie? (Part 3)

The other day, I tried to use my teeth to tear the tea satchet (arrgh, bet you have experienced opening a satchet and the tear failed, that's where our teeth comes handy hee...). This Cutie saw and told me "Mummy, don't eat the plastic" (referring to the satchet). Haha... had told her earlier that mummy is going to make a cup of tea, could she have thought that mummy is too hungry?

Went to VivoCity today and pointed to her the tram and the Sentosa island across. She recalled our visit there last month and started to talk as if she's the adult and I'm the baby, "We went there uh the other time, remember uh, Dora, Patrick was there, remember uh."[must read with a tint of cuteness especially the "uhhhh" ]. (During that time then, she had taken pictures with Dora and Patrick mascots at the Nickelodean's Day of Play.) When she said this, standing near her was a tourist (I think so) and he was in fact also quite amused by this little girl's speech.

2-year old Cutie? (Part 2)

This Cutie is now an expert like mummy, hee... in peeling beansprouts and buying things.

Nowadays, I delicate the job of peeling the roots of the beansprout to my Cutie. All I need to do was just to take out the packet of beansprouts, a bowl and a paper box (for rubbish) and give them to my Cutie. I don't even need to monitor her cos' I know this Cutie will be busy at work.

Here's a video which I took on 22 June 2008. You can see she really did a good job, so you can imagine what an great expert she is now (after more than a month), gee...



In the video, I'm actually quite surprised when she told me to pat pat Meimei and let her be in charge of peeling the beansprouts herself [guess she wants to be in-charged of the task].

Whenever we buy things, this Cutie will take charge to hand the things and cash to the cashiers and give me back the change, without requiring me to accompany her to the counter. Mummy is really glad to see this Cutie gaining confidence and brave to handle the deal on her own (for those who do not know, my Cutie used to be quite shy with strangers).

Is this Cutie 2 years old?

Yes, mummy's been asking herself this.

Today as mummy took out the baby clothes out of the washer, my Cutie who has been sticking to wherever I go, went out of the room. I was surprised, but I was not bothered and continued hand-rinse the clothes [dunno why the person design the Scense Washing Machine did not forsee the need to have a Rinse function??]. Then I carried the pail to the laundry room and guess what I saw... my Cutie was there already, removing the dried baby clothes on the clothes rack. I just felt so touched (she had gone off earlier in order to help me clear the clothes rack, so sweet). After that, she helped me to take the clothes out of the pail one by one. She will give the clothes a shake before handing to me (haha... imitating me).

Mummy really enjoys communicating with her cos' I don't feel as if I'm talking to a 2-year old kid. First, she can understand what I say and secondly, her reply is so adult-like, yet with a tint of cuteness.

Yesterday, mummy told her "Diego is a good boy, must be a good boy like Diego" (Diego is Dora's cousin and now her favourite character). Guess what she told me. Ahem, to be exact what she corrected me.

She said, "Mummy, I'm a girl, not a boy." Mummy has to "apologise" that she must be a good girl.

Till date, we are still in "debate" that the Corelle soup plate which she uses for her meal, is called a plate or a bowl. Every time, I told her "plate", she will correct me that "it's a bowl". Well, based on what I've taught her, she's not wrong in differentiating a plate and a bowl. Actually, I do agree with her [but the box stated it's a soup PLATE", arrgh...].

Finally after checking the definitions for both bowl and plate, I'm more convinced it should be called a BOWL Haha... can't believe that my Cutie is right.

This triggers a thought in me - what's the difference between an adult and a child? An adult is one that has been moulded by the society, past experiences and is rigid in our thinking, whereas a child is one who is brave to stand up for his/her belief against the odds.

So never underestimate what a 2-year old child, we have a lot more to learn from them.

Another milestone for Sweetie

Hooray, my Sweetie has mastered the art of walking. This is the moment to clebrate, that she has learned to overcome her fears of falling, that she is confident that she could do it and she has done it.

Mummy's having a hard time to capture this precious moment on video cos' the moment this Sweetie sees the camera, she will either shake her head signifying "no, no" or do all sorts of things other than walking.

Actually since last week, she has taken her first step to walk without support. Slowly, it increases from the first step to a few steps and today she is able to walk at least 5 steps on her own (without support).

Guess this is also the start of another happy problem - she will want to wander around the shopping centres on her own since she can now move around by herself (haha... this is what happen to my Cutie last year).

I believe this time round will not be that tiring for me as I've now gained a new helper (aka my Cutie) to "chase after" my Sweetie and be my "eye" to tell me where my Sweetie has wandered off to. Hee...

Sweetie turns 1

Time really flies. It seems like yesterday that mummy was in the labour ward and it seems only yesterday that my Sweetie was just a newborn who sleeps almost the whole day and needs help in almost anything.

Finally, my Sweetie turns 1 today. She has finally graduated (ie. no worries about having to bring milk bottles around everywhere we go).


Here's some little update about this Sweetie:

1) When asked what's her name, she will place her hand on her chest, telling you "My name is Felicia";

2) When asked "where?", she will open both her hands with palms facing up, replying "where". She can also show the sign language for "headache" and "thank you".

3) She can follow simple instructions eg. lie down, sit down, hands up etc.

4) She loves to pass things to people. Life's getting better for mummy as she will help to pick up her water bottle and give to mummy with no complain.

5) She has been helping her Jie Jie in keeping some toys before bedtime.

6) She understands the request for "hug" and "pat" actions. It just feels so nice when she hugs and then follow with patting.

7) Mummy's favourite is her generousity in giving her kisses. The only complain is that she will give the kiss with her mouth wide-open. Really enjoy watching her hugging, pat pat and kissing her soft toys. Reminds me of my Cutie too. It's just so sweet to watch their innocent hugs, pats and kisses.

8) She loves "saying" hello and clapping (been able to do that at 9 months old and she still enjoys so much, Sweetie).

9) She loves music and will dance to the music.

10) She is becoming an expert at eating cos' been giving her small mouthful of different variety of food to taste.
Result: The moment she sees mummy with food, you will see her crawling towards me at great speed.

11) She can stand up on her own, from sitting position. Even at times, mummy walks away leaving her in standing postion (with no support), she is able to remain standing on her own.

12) She can walk along side by side with the sofa/bed on her own. Mummy is confident that she will be able to walk very soon.

13) Almost forgot, she knows how to come down from the bed safely. So don't be surprised if you see me left her on the bed by herself. Glad that now instead of having to worry that she will fall off the bed, mummy has taught her how to be safe. But arrgh..., now she always stand on the bed, *faint*

14) She knows how to show good with her index finger (exactly same signature "good" sign as her jiejie)

15) Last but not least, my Sweetie's smiles never fail to warm mummy's heart.

A Child's Perspective

Remember, in 2nd entry in this blog, I shared that whatever thing that has a handle, will transform into a vacuum cleaner in my Cutie's hand. Even till now, she still holds the big flower stalk with the flower petal gliding through the floor. "sigh" *poor flower*.

Find it quite amusing to share in her joy.

For example, she told me Smurfette's hair is "noodles". From the picture, you can see that she is using the "spoon" to cut and eat it. Yummy, yummy. *poor Smurfette*




These Zingo chips are her "Butter cookies"





The spade besides being a spade and vacuum cleaner, is now her "guitar". Haha... it's also her tennis racket.

The hooded towel transforms her into "Little White Riding Hood". She's holding her "basket" and driving?? to her grandmother's house.

The wonderful part is that she can derive so much joy from these little things that we adults may not even have noticed. Guess at times we need to see the world from a child's perspective at times and rediscover the joy and sparks that are lost in us.
